Dustin and his wife Patty had their first child on April 5th, 2007 and he is truly God’s great gift to them. When little Ryan Christopher was born they were told that the doctors heard a faint Heart Murmur. After further testing, the faint Heart Murmur diagnosis that they were expecting was changed to a large hole in his heart between two of the four chambers. Realizing this condition affects about 40,000 people a year and is usually a minor issue, they were not all that concerned. At this point, it was recommended for Dustin and Patty to meet with Children’s Hospital for additional tests. What began as a faint Heart Murmur was quickly diagnosed as a combination of 4 different heart problems that doctors have never seen together before. In medical terms, Ryan has a Double Outlet Right Ventricle, Left SVC, Pulmonic Obstruction and a Large Aorto-Pulmonary Window. Ryan had open-heart surgery on May 23rd and is now enjoying a better and faster recovery than anyone expected. Ryan truly is a miracle and continues to surprise doctors and teach them even more about his unique form of Congenital Heart Disease.
